Rule number one: beat the skinny guy.
Looks like Muldrew was oh so close on this one.

Race report:
There were a lot of unknowns going into this race. Fitness was questionable, and it is October in Toronto, so I was somewhat pessimistic about the race.
I went out fairly hard in 3:05, and decided to let the main pack go. Soon there was about a 200m gap between the contenders and the rest of the field, which I was briefly at the front of. Lee M (Guelph), Saheed Khan (TOC), Trevor Caldwell (Toronto) and a master's runner soon caught up to me and we had a decent pack going at around 3:12-3:15 pace.
At 3k I was gapped a little bit, but by 4k I had caught up. At the moment I caught up, Saheed and Lee took a wrong turn (bad marshalling) and it was down to Trevor and I (the master's runner was tucked in behind). We split 5k at the bottom of the course and started the long trek back up to the finish.
The second half of the course was against the wind and was quite twisty and turny. We hit a couple 3:20 k's and Lee soon caught back up to us. Trevor and Lee took off on me and it was a long struggle to the finish. Shaheed passed me in the last couple kilometres and put in a lot of ground on me.
Overall, I was content with the race. It's good to know where I am at fitness-wise and hopefully I'll have time to get fitter for nationals xc.
I'm excited to see Brian take down that (soft) record tomorrow!

Have to disagree with this ruling. To lose a showdown you have to start the race. With Hack not starting, no, points can be awarded. An exception is in place for the Hack vs. Raudebaugh Keg Showdown at Stewart Cup, cause there is no way either of them is allowed to come up with an excuse not to put up for the Keg.

Have to disagree with this ruling. To lose a showdown you have to start the race. Clearly ducking the competition = losing for sure Harry. Not saying Hack did this but saying you did!
