The Bears are shaping up to kick some a.s.s.
We got The Beef back and hopefully Austin as well if he ever resurfaces.
Everyone returns from last year except Tyler but he doesn't even like Cross Country.
With another year of experience and training behind us this group is looking to make huge strides from past years.
Expect big things from us, cause we're expecting big things from ourselves.
Of course, if Macdonalditis sweeps its way through the squad all bets are off (sorry).

good points art, I stop even going to the U of A Athletics website a long time ago, every news about the Bears is sometimes in the U of A newspaper "Gateway" or by going to the practices, or searching the results page.
The thunder board is probably the closest way a person can get without the above. Sean I know Torrance has one more kick at the can if he choses. Club sports are for me from now on. The university circuit is really busy. My sights are set on steeplechase and possibly the wed night series. I'll be cheering on the Bears from the sidelines this year.
Are their any results from the Bears tryouts can anyone fill us in?

Tryouts go September 15, later than in past years. It'll be 8km. Without question there will be a report up upon their completion.

Ya the point of the tryouts is to divide the team into training groups (Green/Gold/White) based on their performance, it's just a little more formalized than using a weeks worth of workouts. No one gets cut, although most of the whites usually don't end up coming out through the whole season, like you said. And the 6k on the info page is a typo, it's an 8k.
No one's disputing your point, but I don't get why you're complaining to a bunch of athletes about how the program is run, last time I checked we didn't call the shots.
And why don't you come out on the 15th yourself? You can trash us and the program in person.

The two schools I went to in the USA had tryouts. I ran one tryout at the U of A, the U of C I dont remember any tryouts. All the schools I went to I ended up being an automatic on the team and some years I never went to tryouts. That being said they may not be necessary for some athletes but for the new incoming and continuing athletes it is a good way to tell the current shape of an athlete. The Coach's use them to gauge performance and to see what shape current athletes are in. It's a very important element in making a training program for a specific athlete. Some other schools gauge performance by placing them in races (ie U of S) , which is pretty much the same as tryouts.
You can say the U of A is getting a jump ahead by first strategically planning its team and preparing them for a great performance before they place them on the battlefield.

I just want to give a shout out to team veteran/old man Hackenbrook for successfully defending his Harvest Run Title. From the little I have heard from him it seemed to be an easy victory, well, easy for Hack. Good to see he's rounding into form just in time for the Cougar Trot.

Dude,
How does bashing the bears improve the U of A cross-country website?
Discussing cross and what the bears ARE doing, that should be the real target.

I've got to ask, if you're not Adam, why do you refuse to tell us who you are? This is a club message board, so it's not like a ton of random people will know/care like on big sites like letsrun. Why the mistery? You've been posting on here long enough, just come out and tell us who you are.
